Thanksgiving is almost here! You’re probably thinking about dinner, family, and maybe a big Thanksgiving party … But what about your heating system?
Don’t worry, we’re here to help you make sure everyone is comfy in your Orange County home on the big turkey day (even if you’re just having a dinner with your immediate family)! Here’s what to keep in mind:
It will be hot
You’re probably thinking, “What do you mean hot? It’s the middle of fall.” True, it won’t be hot outside. But to get your heating system ready for your Thanksgiving party, consider that the indoor temperature that day will probably be warmer than usual. This is because you’ve got the oven and perhaps other hot appliances generating lots of heat in the kitchen, and then, if you have a lot of guests over, that generates heat as well.
On the other hand, you’ll probably have people coming in and out, opening and closing the door, more often than usual, too. So how do you deal with these fluctuations in temperature, and keep everyone comfortable?
Overall, we recommend keeping your thermostat turned down a few degrees lower than the usual setting, because the heat coming from a 300-degree oven, and from guests moving and talking, will outweigh everything else. Plus, this will save you a bit of money on your November heating bill. (That’s nice after all the food spending you probably just did!)
Housecleaning is a good idea
We know you’re probably already cleaning up in preparation for guests, but having clean air is important both for the guests, and for your heating system! Using a vacuum with a HEPA filter (that sucks up dust rather than pushing it around), dusting surfaces, cleaning the vents, and changing your filter all help reduce the strain on your heating system by making its job of circulating air as easy as possible. Also, Biard & Crockett offers whole-home air purifiers like the Air Scrubber by Aerus®. It destroys up to 99% of microbes, and reduces dust, allergens, and odors. That is certainly an awesome thing to consider with all the guests coming into your home!
Get a furnace tune-up
The upcoming holiday is a great opportunity to give your heating system a tune-up, especially if you’re hosting a party. This is a great idea in general, because a regular tune-up reduces the strain on your heating system by increasing efficiency and making it run cleaner. Technicians will clean grime and debris from key parts of your furnace like the blower and motor, will check for any cracks or leaks, and will fully inspect all components including the electrical.
Remember, your heating system will be working extra hard to keep the temperature stable on Thanksgiving Day, so make sure you do everything you can to keep it running smoothly. If you have any questions or need a heating system tune-up, contact us online or give us a call: (714) 602-1299
