Fall is in full swing! Is your heating and cooling system fully prepared for changing temperatures? Don’t worry, because Biard & Crockett has your back!
Our checklist will take you through all the steps needs to transition to fall. There’s some maintenance you can do yourself and some maintenance with which you’ll need our help. So without further ado:
Step 1: Get your A/C ready for fall.
You don’t typically think of “cooler weather” and “A/C,” but you should be thinking about your air conditioner during this time! It would be best to do a couple of things to prepare the system for fall and winter and for all to go smoothly when you turn it on again in the spring. First, clean your condenser coils. You can do this by simply removing dirt, sticks, leaves, and other debris from the unit or you can take a vacuum attachment and give the unit a more thorough cleaning. Also, consider investing in an A/C cover (available at any home improvement store) or covering the outdoor unit with a tarp. You’d be amazed how much of a difference taking care of your A/C unit makes!
Step 2: Change the filter.
It’s always a good idea to change out your air filter at least every 1-3 months, but since we’re in the fall, why not do it now? Not only will you keep allergens and dust from entering your living space (and causing issues for those with allergies/asthma), you’ll keep furnace components clean and improve airflow. Did you know, according to the Department of Energy, regularly replacing dirty filters reduces your home’s energy use by up to 15%?[1]
Step 3: Inspect your heating system.
It’s that time of year! It’s best to have an annual professional heating system inspection and tune-up, which we highly recommend. In the meantime, here’s what you can do yourself: check the exhaust flue outdoors to make sure it’s clean, inspect all components/piping for any signs of leaks or cracks, and change the batteries in your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector.
Step 4: Call Biard & Crockett!
To finish the previous step, give Biard & Crockett a call! Your heating tune-up from us includes a complete cleaning of the motor and other components (dirt is the #1 efficiency drain in a furnace), gas pressure check (if you have a gas furnace), drain line clearing, and electrical review – we do it all!
If you haven’t had your heating system tuned up in the last year, give us a call right away. The earlier you can get in for service, the better! It will save you money in the long run (trust us!) and help prevent any severe damage. You can schedule an appointment online anytime this fall, or give us a call: (714) 602-1299
